Aspen Avenue


Recommended improvements along Aspen Avenue focus on making the corridor safer and more accessible for people walking, biking, and driving.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements

Several new and upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities are proposed, including:

  • A 10‑foot shared-use sidepath along the east side of Aspen Avenue

  • A 5‑foot sidewalk along the west side of Aspen Avenue

Connections to nearby streets are also included:

  • To the north, the sidepath would continue west along 46th Place, with an enhanced crossing across Aspen Avenue

  • To the south, the sidepath would continue east along Kenosha Street


Roadway and Traffic Capacity Improvements

The primary roadway improvements are recommended for Aspen Avenue north of SH‑51, between Omaha Street and 46th Place. These improvements include:

  • A five-lane roadway section

  • Intersection capacity improvements at Aspen Avenue and Omaha Street


Pedestrian Crossing Enhancements

Signalized pedestrian crossings at Aspen Avenue and Omaha Street would be upgraded to improve safety and accessibility. These upgrades include:

  • High-visibility crosswalk markings

  • Pedestrian signal heads

  • ADA‑compliant curb ramps

  • Audible push buttons

Similar pedestrian improvements are also recommended at the SH‑51 ramp terminal intersections.


Aspen Avenue & Omaha Street Intersection Improvements

Short‑Term Improvements The following needs were identified for near-term improvements at this intersection:

  • Two through lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions

  • A northbound right‑turn lane

  • Longer left‑turn storage lanes

Long‑Term Improvements Additional improvements identified for the future include:

  • Two through lanes in both the eastbound and westbound directions

  • A southbound right‑turn lane

  • Dual protected left‑turn lanes for eastbound traffic
